See Me Walk a Mile Event

See Me Scotland are a mental health charity who aim to end mental health discrimination. See Me and Chris McCullough Young created the “walk a mile” free activity after Chris’ walk around the UK to end the stigma (read his book : “walk a mile: tales of a wondering loon”, available on Amazon).
The idea is to bring together people from all different professions, backgrounds and experiences to end the stigma around mental health. They walk together, talk together and “walk in someone else’s shoes” for a mile.
While there is no pressure to do anything other than walk, I would encourage anyone who attends to talk with others. You can talk about your own experiences or hear about others, or even just have a conversation.
I will be running my own Walk a Mile event on the 26th of May at Aberdeen Beach Boulevard.
We will be meeting at 11am at The Beach Leisure Centre (on the Boulevard, not the side which the building is on) and walking to “Deep Marine” (next to the public toilets beside footdee). I will be handing out conversation cards at the leisure centre for anyone to write down what they’ve gotten out of the walk at the end, then will collect them at the end. They have a question on them which may give you a conversation starter. These will be anonymous but will be sent to See Me Scotland in order to show them the steps Aberdeen are taking to break the stigma around mental health.
Thank you 🙂
Just to clarify; this is a free event and is not to raise funds, only to raise awareness
